The Asheville JCC invites your community to join us in a very special monthly online program geared towards Jewish seniors, called Welcome Shabbat Sha-Zoom.

A partnership of the Jewish Community Center, JFS of WNC and funded by the Dementia Society of America and CFJS, Welcome Shabbat Sha-Zoom connects Jewish seniors with an online community of folks who appreciate the beauty of lighting Shabbat candles, love to sing, learn and make new friends across the Carolinas. Folks participate in beloved traditions and rituals without the difficulties of leaving their facilities or homes. Singing as a group is and has always been central to the Jewish communal experience, and participating evokes memories, connection, and comfort. Each month the Sha-Zoom family looks forward to coming together as a group and hearing the melodies, prayers, and poetry of their past thus improving their quality of life.

This online program meets the first Friday of the month from 4 - 4:30 pm. The flow of the 30-minute program is as follows:

Words of Welcome from the JFS of WNC Executive Director
Introducing ourselves to each other
Opening musical medley from the Welcome Shabbat music specialist
Shabbat candle lighting
Bim Bam and other Shabbat songs
5-minute learning segment/d’var Torah from the JCC‘s Jewish Lifelong Engagement Director or special guest
Prayer for Healing including poetry, names of folks who will benefit from our healing prayers, singing of Mi Shebeyrach
Closing musical medley
Final words, poem or wishes

The Asheville JCC, a grantee of CFJS, is offering this program free of charge to Jewish communities across the Carolinas.
